Run or Walk. The Future is Bright – Georgia’s 5.164K Run for Autism is a 5.164K run to support the 1 in 64 children, adults, and families living with autism in Georgia. The event is taking place in 3 Georgia communities on the same day to truly represent and support our autism community in Georgia. 2016 locations:  Augusta, Kennesaw and Valdosta – Wild Adventures Theme Park (Run and Autism Friendly Family Day). In addition to the 5.164K there will be a 1.164K Fun Run / Walk and family resource fair.

  • 9:00 am 1:30 pm, October 19, 2016Safe & Sound - Autism Training for 1st Responders: Columbus, GA

    The Autism Society of Georgia, in collaboration with the Autism Hope Center, is pleased to offer FREE training for Law Enforcement, Fire & Rescue Officers, EMS, Dispatchers and Civilian Employees.

    Safe & Sound is a nationally acclaimed training program delivered to Law Enforcement, Fire & Rescue Officers, Dispatchers and Civilian Employees by a Law Enforcement and Fire & Rescue Officer. Sgt. Jimmy Donohoe of the Pensacola Police Department and Retired Captain Bill Cannata of the Boston Fire Department deliver the training as experts in their fields and also, as parents of a child with autism. They share professional and first hand personal experiences to ensure the best possible outcome for everyone involved.

    Sgt. Donohoe and Capt. Cannata, Jr have trained thousands of first responders nationally. They have
    pioneered and implemented programs that have been taught and have saved lives.
    The training session will focus on tools for agencies to address autism-related field contacts, communication and behavior, sensory issues, de-escalation techniques, arrest, restraint and custody issues.
